Scales of measurements of data
- Nominal Scale
- Ordinal Scale
- Interval Scale
- Ratio Scale
Nominal Scale:
Represents categories with no ranking, it only represents categories of data.
Example: Blood group, customer segments
What operation can we do on nominal scale?
We can perform count operation on categories.
Ordinal scale:
Here ordinal scale is same as nominal scale where the categories have certain order
Example: Likert scale – 1-strongly disagree, 2-disagree, 3-neutral, 4-agree, 5-strongly agree
What operation can we do on ordinal scale?
We can perform count operation on categories
Interval scale:
Data has equal interval between them
Example: Years (365 days among years), 12 Months, Weeks (7 days)
What operation can we do on interval scale?
We can perform difference among the variables can be measured, ratios cannot be measured
Ratio scale:
Ratio has all the properties of an interval scale with starting zero point
Example: Height, weight, distance, time (all with zero starting point)
What operation can we do on ratio scale?
We can perform difference among the variables can be measured
